IE University will receive funding from the European Commission for the implementation of an intervention project in the field of Public Safety. Miguel Gandarillas, Professor for the School of Psychology, will coordinate the project along with other contributing entities.

The 5th Meeting of “Communication Scientists and Professionals” was celebrated on January 16th last. Professor Almudena González delivered the conference “From Barrier-Free Television to a Board of Directors for Audiovisual Services: The Development of Public Policies on Television Advertising in Spain”.

Professor Fernando Villaseñor has recently participated in a seminar organized by the CNRS, in Paris, with the following presentation “Bibliophilia and the University: The Illuminated Codex of Diego de Anaya (1357-1437)”.

Biology School Professor Pablo Tejedo is presently embarked on a research in the Antarctic. Pablo Tejedo is researching the environmental impact of commercial tourism on the Antarctic ecosystems until February 10th.

On January 20th, the study titled “Performance Evaluation of Public Administrations” was presented at the Main Lecture Hall of the IE Business School.


The study was developed by Adriana Angel, Kenneth A. Dubin, and Cristina  Simón from the Instituto de Empresa, along with Miguel Salvador from Pompeu Fabra University, and coordinated by Julio Gómez-Pomar, Director of the PwC & IE Public Sector Center; Gayle Allard, Vice-Dean of Research at the IE Business School and Holder of the Economic and Financial Chair of the PwC & IE Center for the Public Sector.

Throughout the last trimester of 2008, Professor Javier Carrillo was a visiting professor at the Electricity Policy Research Group (EPRG) at Cambridge University. During his stay, Javier was involved in research related with the transfer of clean technologies to developing nations.

In 2008 Javier Carrillo also cooperated with VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland on the research project “Governance and Research of Nordic Energy System Transition (GoReNEST)”, which is focused in developing an analytical framework for the governance of Nordic energy transition. This framework is applied for the analysis of the role of various research and policy instruments in supporting the energy transition.

Professor Monika Hamori has been awarded the HR LEADERSHIP AWARD in recognition of her academic contribution to the area of Human Resources.

Professor Santiago López Navía, of the School of Arts and Humanities, has received the Juan Bernier Poetry Award for his piece “Ethics and Rhetoric to Jacobo Sadness”.

The article “Cracking the Code of Mass Customization”, authored by Fabrizio Salvador, Pablo Martín de Holan and Frank Piller, has been accepted for publication in Sloan Management Review.

Professor Pedro Pérez’s articleAnalyzing Spatial and Temporal Variation in Colony Size: An Approach Using Autoregressive Mixed Models and Information Theory” has recently been published in Population Ecology.

The article “Implications of Keeping Up With the Joneses Behavior for the Equilibrium Cross-Section of Stock Returns: International Evidence”, authored by Juan Pedro Gómez, Richard Priestley and Fernando Zapatero has just been accepted for publication in the Journal of Finance.

Professor Francisco López Lubián’s article “Financial Restructuring at Jazztel: What’s Next?”  has just been published in the Journal of Financial Education.

The article “Determinants of Domestic and Cross-Border Bank Acquisitions in the European Union”, authored by María Jesús Nieto, Associate Professor, will be soon published in the Journal of Banking & Finance.

Professors Juan José Prat and Carolina Suárez have developed a Style Manual for Academic Research Work.

Mr. Burak Koyuncu (PhD Candidate at IE, 2006) has been accepted as a Visiting Doctoral Student at Wharton, starting January 2009 and ending May 2009. During his stay, the PhD Candidate will pursue his Dissertation Research.

IE Business School PhD student Björn Claes, has joined the POMS Chronicle editorial team.  POMS (Production and Operations Management Society) is one of the most important companies within the Operations Area.

The 13th International Conference organized by the Reputation Institute, will take place in Amsterdam on May 28-30, 2009.

The Financial Services Institute has just issued a call for articles for the 4th Annual Conference “Financial Services Regulation: Impact on Accounting, Management, and Marketing”, which will take place in New York City.
