The resolution of the Chairman of the Social and Economic Council of Castilla and Leon, which awards a Research Prize (3,000 euros) for unpublished research works on economic, social or labor issues related to Castilla y Leon, has recently been published.  An consolation prize of 3,000 euros can also be obtained. The selected work will be published in the Research Magazine of the Social and Economic Council of Castilla y Leon. The due date for presenting the projects is july 31, 2009. On November 27, Professor Fernando Villaseñor  delivered his conference titled Soldiers of Christ. Military Orders and their Intervention in the Iberian Peninsula, in the C.C. Julian Besteiro de Leganes.

On December 3rd, Pilar Galeote’s book “Voting Trade Unions. Control in a Group Society”, which contains part of her doctoral thesis, was presented.

The event included a roundtable discussion presented by Jose M. de Areilza, Dean of IE Law School, and which included the following  participants: Ana Campuzano, Chair of Mercantile Law at San Pablo CEU University, Carlos Ulecia, Adjunct Secretary General from PRISA GROUP, Mercedes Costa, Director of the Center for Negotiation and Mediation at IE and IE LAW SCHOOL Professor, and Pilar Galeote, author and IE LAW SCHOOL Professor.

The Second IE Business School-Gavin Anderson & Company Report, “2009: Context of Spanish Investment in Latin America”, was recently presented.

The report explored the outlook for Spanish investments in Latin America in 2009 by the companies in the IBEX 35.

Juan Carlos Martínez Lázaro, professor of Economic Environment has participated in the report.

Professor Santiago López has just published his research work “The literary re-creation of Don Quijote in the light of Spanish nationalism: Don Quijote and Napoleon in the War of Independence”, in the collective volume Tus obras los rincones de la tierra descubren. On December 9, Professor Rosa Maria Boal presented her book “Separation and Divorce. From Desolation to Self-Growth” at IE University.

On Nov. 10 and 11, 2009 Professor Fabrizio Salvador joined the MIT Smart Customization Group (under the MIT Media Lab), an MIT industry-academia initiative that brings together leading scholars who share an interest in customization/product variety management across different management disciplines (operations, marketing, innovation and strategy/organization theory). The purpose of this initiative is to discuss ideas while setting the future research agenda on personalization and customization. MoreMore

Professor Gregory Truman has recently joined the editorial board of the Journal of Information Technology Case and Application Research (JITCAR).  The journal publishes manuscripts on applied research and teaching cases that examine management issues related to assorted information technologies.

On November 18th, Margarita Mayo participated as a speaker in the Professional Challenge Seminar, organized by HSM Global, and she gave the following conference: “Leaders of the Future: Challenges and Opportunities”.

Also, on November 25, Margarita Mayo gave a conference on leadership at the Future Managers event in Barcelona.

Karan Sonpar had a paper accepted for publication in Human Relations. This paper is titled ‘Normal Accident Theory versus High Reliability Theory: A Resolution and call for an Open Systems view of Accidents’ (with Samir Shrivastava and Federica Pazzaglia). 

The Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce (Advance Program R&D) has given a subsidy of 7,550 euros to the  “SONAR2: Recommendation and Support System for Financial Decisions” project, directed by Professor Laura Núñez, from the Finance Department at the IE Business School. This project uses semantic technologies and artificial intelligence techniques for the design of stock market recommendation systems.

The article “Does stakeholder management have a dark side?”by one of IE’s PhD candidates, Carmelo Cennamo, together with Professor Gómez Mejía (Arizona State University) and Professor Berrone (IESE), has just been accepted for publication in the Journal of Business Ethics. MoreMore

The 25th EGOS Colloquium on ‘The Social Dynamics of Standardization’ will be celebrated July 2-4, 2009, in Barcelona. The 2009 IAMCR Conference will be held on July 21st through 24th, 2009, in Mexico City at the Centro Cultural Universitario Tlatelolco-UNAM. The Political Economy Section welcomes proposals for papers focused on the general conference theme, “Human Rights and Communication,” and papers that address theory and research related to the study of the political economy of media and communications. Also, proposals that include issues relating to community communication and political economy will be considered for a joint session between the Political Economy and Community Communication sections.
