Attached a CFP for Global Business and Organizational Excellence  – A Review of Research & Best Practices, published by John Wiley and Sons.

 RESOLUTION The Secretary of State for Research has opened the competition for research grants in the Internationalization of R&D program within the National plan for Scientific Research, Development and Technological Innovation for 2008-2011.

The Research Department was very pleased with the results of our grant competition (the first in IE history).  A total of 30 projects were received from all areas and both campuses, and with budgets totaling more than €600.000.  In the next few days we will report the funding decisions of the joint CAT-IE Committee. 


Thank you for your enthusiasm and for some very interesting, creative projects.

November 5th is the last day to send your information to the second edition of the Research Excellence Recognition program which rewards publications during 2003-2007 in journals of Economy.

Below is a list of some of the grants won recently by IE faculty for research. PhD students are participating in many of the projects.



The  “Jaime Fernández de Araoz prize in Corporate Finance” is an international prize created in 2005 to recognize and encourage the development of knowledge in the area of Corporate Finance.  The winner is awarded €10.000 and a sculpture by Martín Chirino.  Applicants must present unpublished, new manuscripts, which can be uploaded on the web.

Juan José Prat Ferrer has published the book: Bajo el árbol del paraíso. Madrid: CSIC, 2008, 471 págs.


The work is a study of the paradigms, symbols and other constructs that the cultured man has used in the development of the Folklore.



Cristina Cruz (Entrepreneurship) and Manuel Becerra‘s  (Strategy) paper “Perceptions of benevolence and the design of agency contracts: CEO-TMT relationships in family firms” has been accepted for publication in the AMJ – Academy of Management Journal.

Laura Nuñez has been appointed member of the editorial board of a new journal “International Journal of Data Mining, Modeling and Management” (IJDMMM) which  is related to the artificial intelligence area.


The paper Social Computing: Implications for E Government by Rhoda C. Joseph (Pensylvania State University) and José Esteves  has just been published in The International Journal of Virtual Communities and Social Networking.

The paper entitled “What Really is Collaborative Capability and How Does it Impact Alliance Outcomes and Success?” by Melanie Schreiner (University Konstanz), Prashant Kale (Rice University) and Daniel Corsten  has been accepted for publication in Strategic Management Journal.

Margarita Mayo and Juan Carlos Pastor‘s working paper “Workgroup Gender Diversityand Charismatic Leadership: Asymmetric Effects Among Men and Women” was recently listed on SSRN’s Top Ten download list.

The working paper entitled “Financial Strategies in the Expansion of Spanish Companies into Latin America”, Written by Guillermo Cardoza  and Proffesor R. Curci (Buttler University), received the best Paper Award in the 2008 Conference on Trends in Global Business, Oct. 9-11, 2008, CT, USA

Marketing Professor Martin Boehm has just published the paper: “Determining the impact of Internet channel use on a customer’s lifetime” in the Journal of Interactive Marketing.

 The Junta de Castilla y León, local universities and the Spanish Science and Technology Foundation  are sponsoring the Science Week, which isheld throughout the European Union from November 12-19, to bring scientific resarch to the public.  IE University is cooperating in the event on its Segovia campus. 


Laura Illia, assistat professor of Corporate Communications at the IE school of Communication participated in the workshop “Mapping Societal Conversation of Science: Methodological Issues and Avenues”, in Sofia (Bulgaria). She pesented the advantages and disadantages of using co-occurrence analysis of text to better identify the main themes that media cover in their articles.

IE University has signed an agreement with the Foundation CONAMA to organize the 9th National Congress of the Environment summit on Sustainable development, from December 1-5 2008 in the Palacio de Congresos de Madrid. Since participants will discuss interdisciplinary topics such as rural development, climate change, energy, infrastructures, mobility and other issues, it is of interest to many areas, and IE professors can attend anay portion of the congress free of charge and can even invite students.

Last  20-21 October, IE Business School hosted two seminars onraining for Trainers, sponsored by the Spanish Foundation for the Science and the Technology (FECYT). MoreMore

Terry Hill, Consultant and Emeritus Fellow in Operations Management at Oxford University, presented on October 22 the research seminar entitled:

“Managing the Supply Chain”


Gilad Livne, Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Finance at Cass BusinessSchool, City University in London, presented on October 23 the research seminar entitled:

 Do Customer Acquisition Costs, Call Usage and Customer Retention Matter in The Wireless Industry?” 



IE Library has purchased a new electronic resource, PsycARTICLES, a database of full-text articles in general psychology. It covers more than 45.000 articles published by specialized magazines such as the American Psychological Association (APA), the APA Educational Publishing Foundation, the Canadian Psychological Association, and Hogrefe & Huber. The database includes all material from the print journals. PsyARTICLES offers information from 1985 to the present. 

IE Library has purchased a new electronic resource, CSA Illumina, which includes three  data bases: Pilot Database, which covers international literature about Traumatic Stress, PsycArticles, with subjects on Psychology and Avery Index to Architectural, with Architecture subjects.

Rachida Justo received the top score on her doctoral thesis which addressed the relationships among gender, family environment and business operations, including decisions to close a business.
